Day 21 - 2nd January

Started the day with a cruise in M/V 21 Mayo lll along Canal Sendre and into Fiordo Esperanza Ultima, past cattle ranches, cormorant and sea lion colonies, plus the condor cliff to Balmaceda Glacier and then Serrano Glacier. We then did a short walk up the side of the receding Serrano Glacier.
Donning large orange water resistant coveralls, we had a very fast 5 minute ride in a large zodiac powered by twin 100hp outboards, nto lunch at Hosteria Monte Balcedo across the river.
Pisco sour (a local cocktail of pisco, lime juice, syrup, egg whites and bitters), salsa, salmon and salad lunch. Then a long fast zodiac ride to the falls in Rio Serrano. Above the falls we changed to a smaller zodiac for the stretch above falls. Green orchids on the hill. We had completely clear view of Torres del Paine mountains all afternoon from our hotel on the river. They lasted into evening, over our welcome drinks and buffet dinner. Horses were roaming around the area.
On arrival we found two condors (3 m wingspan), soring around the nearby hills. Fantastic huge birds that fly like the Wandering Albatross to which they are second only in size.
Free green tea. Staying in Cabanes del Paine
