Overnight once again down Gerlache strait, we arrived in the morning to attempt a crossing of the the Lemaire Channel, our furthest south at 65° 49'S, 63° 57'W. It was foggy and our going was slow and cautious. This channel is flanked by two close 900m peaks. Scenes from Lord of the Rings came to mind.
About half way through our skilled Russian captain decided that the extent of bergy bits posed too great a risk as they may close us in for our return, so reluctantly we aborted the attempt, returning back north.
Our changed itinerary took us to the Peltier channel. The weather was rough but we donned our gear and headed off for yet another zodiac cruise around this spectacular bay (Doumier Island). Gentoo penguins and a sighting of the pure white Snow Petrel was a highlight.
On return, we motored to anchor outside Yelco Station (Chile) at 64° 52'S, 63° 35'W for a BBQ dinner inside, followed by a great night of dancing in the galley then karaoke and dancing in the bar.
